Modern Warfare 3 features an extensive multiplayer mode that includes new maps and game modes such as Kill Confirmed and Team Defender. The player takes control of various characters throughout the single-player campaign as they battle through locations such as New York City, London, Paris, Hamburg and other cities across Europe. This sets off a chain reaction that leads to a global war between Russia and the United States. The game begins with a flashback to five years prior to the events of MW2, where a group of Russian Ultranationalists led by Vladimir Makarov launch a surprise attack on Moscow. The story of Modern Warfare 3 follows on from the events of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii in November 2011.
